Justin Timberlake was in New York to introduce his new curated collection of home goods for Home Mint? Not another celeb thinking their a designer? Okay, so he collaboratedwith his longtime friend Estee Stanley, an LA-based stylist and interior designer.
I have to say, I really do like the collection! Justin moves seamlessly between the music, movie, fashion and now design industry! The collection is versatile: dinnerware, woodencuttingboards, cool rugs, geometric and colorful tableware, graphic pillows, interestingaccessories and even artwork where two New York scapeswere shot by Justin himself! Innovation exploded when the creative partnership formed between two creative giants, the house of Alexander McQueen under Sarah Burton and Barlas Baylar’s Hudson Furniture. I nearly flipped out as McQueen and Hudson Furniture are my two favorite design houses!!
I recently read in Interior Design Magazine that McQueen and Hudson jointly designed collections for a one-of-a-kind couture fashion and architectural design launch back in December. I missed this hush-hush industry event at Hudson’s 8000 sq ft showroom but that doesn’t stop me from loving this artful collaboration and how the two innovative and new collections intermingle! McQueen’s spring-summer collection are elaborate, hand-appliqued beauties and Hudson, although known for a combination of reclaimed wood, metals and resin, dramatically explored new materials and forms like edgy geometric consoles and exciting creations that borders as art. Examine the images below where fashion meets design via Interior Design Mag:
I love this play of hard against soft....
McQueen's gown of hand-appliquéd silk brocade meets
Hudson's Tusk chandelier in polished stainless steel
and Rose Base dining table in walnut and bronze.
Breathless....this is stunning! My eye can't focus...
Hudson's gorgeous Mother chandilier in laser-cut stainless steel
and innumerable yards of faceted nickel chains offsets
This chair is Art! Hudson's lacqured black sculptural chair was inspired by the shape of sting-rays. Don't get stung!
Wowser, sculptural furniture! This intricate, piercing black armoire is lacquered walnut with pulls in a cast bronze-copper alloy. I just want to touch it!
Is this console FIERCE or what? I love the combination of smooth, and rough, so sleek! Hudson's Lipstick console table is made up of slabs of nickel, bronze, acrylic, and zircote walnut wood.
My daughter loves Monster High dolls, dolls that are ghoulastically pretty! Monster High is an American Fashion Line doll created by Garrett Sander, with illustrations by Kellee Riley. The characters are inspired by monster movies, either related to Dracula, the mummy, creature from the black lagoon, the Phantom of the Opera, the Wolf man,Medusa and Frankenstein's monster, etc.
This is the hottest doll out! Every 8 year old is obsessed with owning the entire collection. Believe me, I know! The Monster High line has become a huge brand, including clothes, books, school supplies, wigs, and a slew of videos. Here is a video with Ghoulia Yelps:
Ghoulia Yelps as you can see is a zombie with gorgeous blue hair and cute pink clothing, great inspiration for a pink and blue girls room! See pics below:

Fashion designer Stacy Igel is an inspiration to all young women! With hard work and determination, she reached for the stars and built a successful brand from scratch called Boy Meets Girl USA! She recognized that there was a need for contemporary clothing with a wearable, but edgy feel! From college girls to hip celebs, she is targeting the confident, proactive woman who likes to laugh and not take herself too seriously. It is all that...chic, whimsical and comfy. Her classic sweatshirt hoodie with the boy and girl silhouette is my fave! You can rock it in many ways, dress it up or down!
Stacy tells the story behind her stylish brand. "The first time I met my husband’s parents was for dinner at their apartment. While they were giving me the tour, I noticed a picture frame containing silhouettes of their three children from when they were younger. My parents had a similar picture of my sister and I from when we were about the same age. I thought about us and how we still both had these young, playful, carefree versions of ourselves inside of us and I knew right then and there my brand would be called Boy Meets Girl® and that I’d use our silhouettes for the logo. The logo driven product came first and we have been growing the collection organically from there."
You probably have noticed her clothing on shows such asBeverly Hills 90210, Gossip Girl,American Next Top Model, Vampire Diaries and even the girls on the Bachelor! Major celebshave been sporting her clothes like Anne Hathaway, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Eva Mendes, Krysten Ritter and Rosario Dawson!
See images of actresses Jennifer Love Hewitt and Krysten Ritter below wearing Boy Meets Girl sweatshirt hoodie and jacket:

Interview with Stacy Igel, Boy Meets Girl:
Who and what are your ultimate muses in fashion, music, art and/or architecture that have shaped your collections and career?
I draw inspiration from a variety of eclectic influences: vintage clothing, the vibrant New York art and music scenes, Hollywood glamourati, etc. As far as business mentors/role models goes, there’s Ellie Tahari, Zandra Rhodes and Elsa Klensch, all of whom I’ve worked for and all of whom were hard workers in their own right even after they’d “made it.” That was an eye opener for me. I was smart enough to recognize that the hard workers were usually the individuals who got the big opportunities in life. They were also the ones who were prepared to capitalize on those opportunities. Stylistically, I’m going to give you my holy trinity of influences. First, Coco Chanel, who famously said “Fashion is not something that exists in dresses only. Fashion is in the sky, in the street, fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.” I agree. I think that’s why I am so happy working as hard as I do. Second, Kate Moss. Of course she’s a beautiful and confident woman, but what I love about her is the way she effortlessly transitions from eclectic vintage to high fashion. She never looks like she’s trying to put an outfit together – everything looks like it just naturally belongs on her body. Third, Patti Smith. She’s stayed true to her edgy stylishness since the 70s. She’s unflappable.
Take us behind the design and your artistic vision for the 2012 Spring/Summer collection. What inspired these garments? Is there a story? What fueled your creative process?
My first tradeshow was scheduled for September 11th and by the time the show resurfaced later that Fall, I had completely redesigned the line based on this intense desire to place “Americana” at it’s heart. Our customer is the quintessential All-American girl… someone who is a dreamer; someone with spirit. I’m proud to be an American and I’m proud of the brand’s roots, along with our history of local sourcing and production. Like so many of us, I will never forget that day and how it shaped my life and career. The “Americana” inspired collection for Spring 2012 line, featured reconstructed vintage pieces from a decade of Boy Meets Girl® by Stacy Igel And a select group from the collection are available for purchase from the Boy Meets Girl® “Buy Now, Wear Now” promotion that went live during the presentation on www.boymeetsgirlusa.com.
How inspiring to work in an office that is made all out of cardboard! Very eco-friendly! Take us behind the design.
Stacy has a strong interest in organic fabrics and recycling, so in collaboration with Cathy Henszey from Design Cycle, her office design was constructed mainly out of cardboard. Each cardboard piece was assembled without any glue or nails. Uh-mazing! Cardboard furniture such as desks, bookshelves, bulletin boards, dividers, work stations, chairs, couches, and even her brand of a boy and girl silhouette is created in an innovative way by inserting colored paper wishes into the cardboard corrugated holes. I love how this wall is interactive, and is her ultimate branding message. To top it all off, she creates pillows out of her sweatshirt hoodies by stuffing them with recyclable foam! Very cool! (See pics below)
I love how this is a bit out of the ordinary and is so good for the environment.Awesome to see fashion designers adopting eco-friendly ideas into their everyday working experience! Very innovative! Love it!

Can you describe some of the unique design details in your space that reflect your fun, fresh and flirty clothes? I love that everyday someone comes to my office whether it be a celebrity/buyer/editor/stylists/etc they get to create their own wish in the WISH WALL and fill the wall with color and new designs. Everyday my guests are amazed by the wall and are so excited to make a wish. The colorful wall to me is the essence of Boy Meets Girl(R). The clothes are fresh, innovative, flirty and the Boy Meets Girl(R) girl has fun and does not take life too seriously.

Is the interior of your home an embodiment of the Boy Meets Girl signature style: eclectic, edgy, comfortable, girly or is the interior of your home entirely different from your fashion lines?
Yes my home does embody the Boy Meets Girl signature style. I am actually in the midst of moving into my new home that I recently bought with my husband. So I have taken photos of elements of my current home that will be coming with me into my new home. I am sooo excited for my move! Promise to share more once I am all moved in in Sept/Oct 2012.

Your ‘Behind the Seams’ web series is inspiring as you take us behind-the-scenes and show us how passionate and hard you work in the fashion industry. What is your ultimate goal for your brand and strategy for success?
I think, in many ways, Boy Meets Girl® is still an emerging brand with a lot of room for growth. I always tell my team we have only scratched the surface and we have 99% more to go J. I do believe I have mastered the product quality and the pricing strategy for my brand and have defined who the Boy Meets Girl® girl is. To that end, I’ve just partnered with Kathy Savitt and Lockerz.com, which is the undisputed leader in rewarded social commerce online. Lockerz will be Boy Meets Girl® exclusive e-commerce retailer and I think they will help us tremendously from an exposure and distribution standpoint, as well as from a product development, refinement and metrics perspective. The metrics side of things is really exciting for us. I know this partnership with Lockerz will revolutionize the concept of fast fashion and transform retail.
I am also growing the brand in new categories which is definitely a big part of the brand strategy ie; watches, accessories, legwear, sleepwear, and the list goes on J
On top of all the new category growth I am launching Boy Meets Girl® University in University brick and mortar stores across the country this September 2012! We have only just begun and I am excited to take this to many levels. Learn more HERE.
And last I am looking to expand internationally in a much bigger way …Boy Meets London Girl, Boy Meets Tokyo Girl, Boy Meets Korea Girl, ….
Thank you Stacy for an amzing interview!
I look foward to seeing your brand grow and grow and grow!

Wüd LOLITA BENCH WALNUT, PB-R (LEAD ENCASED IN RESIN)
Over the years, I have enjoyed going to Dumbo’s annual BKLYN DESIGN’s show and have looked forward to seeing new creations by Corey Springer, founder of Wüd Furniture design, a Brooklyn-based design and manufacturing studio. Fusing artistic innovation with the sculptural is what Springer's work is all about. Wüd’s tagline is "LIVE WITH IT." And yes you can live with it!: Wüd’s sculptural pieces are hand crafted and crafted with precision so that they endure. You can experience luxurious design; yet still informal, without the worry! Wüd’s artful modern designs combine exceptional joinery with high quality materials like Red Gum Wood, Austrialian Walnut,Macassar Ebony and Pb-R (lead or zinc encased in resin). At the past Architectural Digest 2012 home show, Springer showcased some new pieces like the Nola Bar (pics seen below) with his unique and indestuctible PB-r material. You can see the lead or zinc but you cannot touch, scratch or stain its surface because it is embedded in a case of resilient, smooth resin. Great for any type of countertop! It’s both sleek and industrial-looking! The wood finishing is also amazingly beautiful!!
I really enjoyed seeing Corey again at the Home show and meeting his adorable wife Keren this time. She does all the Wüd marketing and PR. Awesome people, awesome designs! Below please read a great interview with Corey from Wüd Furniture design as he describes his materials, and inspired methods:

Interview with Corey Springer, Wüd Furniture Design:
What does Wüd mean? How did you came up with the name of your company?
There is no real meaning behind the name - just a play on words for wood furniture. We came up with the name Wüd during a brainstorming session 10 years ago, drinking wine and sitting around the couch with some family. We wanted a name that was catchy yet unique, and Wüd seemed to fit the bill. It resonated with us instantly.

Tell me about your background in sculpture and how your interest in Japanese design influences your furniture making?
I graduated with a degree in sculpture design from the University of Massachusetts.Upon graduating,I was determined to pursue my art, but briefly struggled with how to turn it into a living as opposed to a hobby. I decided to take some courses at the New School in Manhattan to help me find the right direction. It was during a product design class that we were asked to design a chair and it was my "lightbulb" moment. I then realized that designing and building furniture was what I wanted to do. It allowed me to pursue my love of design and incorporate my background in sculpture, and truly seemed like the most natural progression. I've always admired Japanese furniture and architecture. The clean lines, the simplicity of the designs, and the beautiful use of wood with other materials, has always spoken to me and found its way into my designs.

How would you describe your design aesthetic?
Our aesthetic is modern yet warm - we like to use clean lines and combine it with beautiful rich-colored wood as well as our signature product Pb-R (metal encased in resin). It is really important to me to build high-quality furniture that is elegant yet informal. Our pieces are meant to be used and lived with - they are more than just art.

No great designer exists without inspiration. Please take us behind the design of your revolutionary material, Pb-r. How did the design of metal embedded in epoxy resin all come to be? Tell us the inspired story. What fueled your creative process?
Some of Wud Furniture's first designs included metal surfaces, particularly Lead, because of its rich texture and malleability. We quickly realized that we needed to come up with a solution to protect the material from wear and tear, as well as potential hazards in the case of the Lead. After speaking in depth with a co-worker who specialized in resin, we began testing the process of encasing the metal surfaces in epoxy resin. Our first Pb-r client was a young family who loved the look of a metal surface but did not want the hassle of maintaining it. The Pb-r surface has proven to be extremely resilient, smooth and easy to maintain. It really reflects our vision of creating furniture for people to live with. Now, 9 years later, over 75% of our pieces include Pb-r.
PB-R AS A KITCHEN COUNTERTOP
What are your favorite metals and woods you like to work with?
Zinc, steel, walnut, and red gum.
What designs are you most proud of and why?
The Lolita bench, because it really reflects our style, incorporates Pb-R, and has a sculptural feel, making the bench a piece of functional art.

What are your plans for the Future and beyond?
We plan on continuing to build the Wüd Furniture brand, by incorporating a secondary line that can be sold in retail stores. We also plan on working hard to provide high quality, timeless furniture that reflects our contemporary style.
