DIFFA's Picnic By Design 2013 + Robert Allen Fabric

I am beaming and thrilled to participate in DIFFA's Picnic By Design 2013 summer event next week and to be among an amazing group of design industry leaders! What is also really exciting is Robert Allen's participation as a corporate sponsor and key participant... they graciously donated its immense fabric range of bold colors and on-trend designs to the designers who are participating. Fabrics are showcased and utilized in five of the designers picnic settings from top design firms like Tyler Wisler Home, Cheryl Umbles Interior Design, Clark Gaynor Interiors, and Domoore Designs. MoD Design Guru included! I fell in love with their Palmwood Jet fabric which is an indoor/outddor collection with bold geometrics and a soft natural motif. Perfect for my picnic setting. See it...

Picnic By design takes place on Wednesday, August 21 at the Scholastic Rooftop Atrium. I will post all about the event next week but here are some sneak peek pics of my picnic design experience and some of the other designers mentioned above. Enjoy!

Life's Essentials by MoD Design Guru: air, fire, water and earth

Connecting with all the wonderful work DIFFA does in promoting life and caring for those living with AIDS, the picnic design is based on pure elements of LIFE: air, fire, earth and water. The box spins out and turns into a table for a comfortable yet chic picnic experience under the stars.

AIR: light fixture constructed of bird's feather. Donated by Vita lighting
Fire: candles ( battery operated)
Earth: the box design depicts the cross section thru the earth's crust and its many layers via multiple types of wood. Box fabricated by fivestarmillwork
Water: pungent blue will be a pop of surprise inside

For the urban chic inspired look, I used the darker shades of two DwellStudio and Robert Allen fabrics, Palmwood in Jet and Mod Reeves in Steel from their new collection, Modern Bungalow.

Tyler Wisler, of Tyler Wisler Home, utilizes Robert Allen and Robert Allen Contract fabric in his Native American-themed picnic box, including rich blues, such as Hoara in Night Sky and Until Dawn in Deep Sea Dive, as well as sleek black and whites, like Gosport in Ivory and Alchemy Plume trim in Onyx.

Clark Clark Gaynor Interiors includes GlimmerSequin in ChartreuseMalakos in Malachite, and Landsmeer in Ultramarine to add pops of color to their western picnic barrel, complete with blankets made of burlap and cowhide.

Dee Kemper of Domoore Designs, used Robert Allen's Alchemy Linen in Copper and Metallic Gems in Brass to set the stage for her jazz themed picnic setting, complete with a rhinestone-encrusted piano.

Visit www.picnicbydesign.org for more info on the event. If you live in NYC and want to have a cocktail under the stars, the ticket is going for $75.
